India's insurance regulator proposed hard curbs on loan-linked insurance sales. Bank and NBFC shares fell on the draft, and the line item under attack is distribution fee income.

The framework limits commissions, bans target-based incentives, and forces disclosure of loan costs with and without insurance. Livemint reports the proposal could cut fee income for banks and digital brokers by as much as 90% in high-margin categories.

Verdict

No US lender on our board earns bancassurance income the way Indian private banks do — the direct hit is offshore. But JPM closed at $335.99, the exact bottom of its 90-day range, and regulators pricing distribution economics is not a one-country story.

Three of ten names closed green. That was not a financials day — it was a rate day with one enormous exception.

The Board

  • META $766.41 — up 3.00%, fourth straight green close, high of $770.82 set a 52-week record. Closed in the upper third of the range. CNBC ties the run to the Muse hardware launch. A close above $770.82 confirms it.
  • JPM $335.99 — down 0.46%, gapped up 0.17%, then bled all session. Closed in the lower fifth of the range and 8.0% under the 90-day high. Down 8.0% over 30 sessions.
  • NVDA $221.66 — down 1.71% on the heaviest volume on the board at 832,994. Gapped down 1.5% and closed in the lower third. Second red close.
  • AMD $611.99 — gapped down 2.32% to $600.36, then ran to $624.50. Closed mid-range, 2% under the 52-week high. Still up 26.7% over 30 sessions.
  • V $365.38 — up 1.07%, the only financial to hold a bid. Volume was 69,245, the thinnest print on the board. Don't overweight it.
  • MSFT $493.77 — gapped down 1.19%, recovered to close mid-range. Philadelphia Fed's Anna Paulson flagged further modest rate moves ahead; the megacap gap-downs coincided with that.
  • TSLA $376.68 and AMZN $246.12 — both closed in the lower fifth and lower third respectively. Weak finishes, no capitulation volume.
  • GOOGL $337.86 and AAPL $336.35 — flat and near-flat. Nothing to trade.
META outran NVDA by 4.71 percentage points in a single session. Same AI complex, opposite direction.

What We're Changing

The V below $355.74 call from Tuesday is going the wrong way — Visa gained ground instead. That one is on the clock and looking poor. Read the original take here.

Two more to own. We called META below $668.67 and it has printed a record instead. We called MSFT below $490.00 and the floor held at $491.23 today.

What flips the Meta view: a close back under $743.04 within a week. That breaks the four-session streak and puts the AI hardware bid in question. Absent that, the record stands.

Open Checklist

  • META $770.82 — close above within 5 sessions confirms the breakout.
  • JPM $335.47 — below the session low, the 90-day floor is gone.
  • V $368.17 — above the session high within 5 sessions, the payments bid holds.
