The Strait of Hormuz risk premium came out of oil, and European indexes closed at fresh records on the back of it. WTI traded $75.88, down $4.46 or 5.55%. The equity money that followed went into semiconductors, not into the banks sitting at their highs.
That distinction is where the session's information is. JPM printed $363.00 intraday — the exact 52-week high — and closed at 35% of the day's range. A tag and a fade at a yearly high on 1.1M shares is not a breakout.
Verdict
The de-escalation bid is real but it is concentrated, and the leadership rotated into risk rather than into cyclicals. If AMD holds $502.41 and JPM holds $354.62, the melt-up stays intact. Below those, this was a one-day repricing of oil and nothing more.

The Board
- AMD $525.00 — up 8.33%, gapped up 4.04%, closed at 82% of the range and 10.2% below the $584.73 52-week high. Volume was 4.2M against NVDA's 16.1M. Thin tape on the biggest move of the day.
- JPM $357.55 — up 1.39% but the $363.00 high is the 52-week high, and the close sits 1.5% under it. Lower half of the range after touching the top. That is the cleanest rejection on the board.
- AMZN $277.33 — down 2.36% after a 2.7% gap lower, closed in the lower third at 28% of the range. Our call for a close above $287.16 is offside and unlikely to fill before it expires. The name is now 3.4% below the $287.16 52-week high.
- AAPL $309.34 — up 1.95%, opened below the prior close and finished at 88% of the range. Strongest recovery shape of the ten.
- NVDA $211.90 — up 2.55% on 16.1M shares, the heaviest volume printed. AMD beat it by 5.78 percentage points. That spread is the story inside semis.
- GOOGL $377.61 — up 1.10%, 7.6% below $408.61. Closest megacap to its 52-week high.
- MSFT $492.65 — up 1.03%, high of $499.34 stopped short of $500. Round number is the level the desk is watching.
- TSLA $327.26 — up 1.61% and now 10% above the $297.38 52-week low. Our late-July call for a close below $295 was wrong — the low held and the name has been grinding up off it since. No case there anymore.
- V $369.32 — up 1.00%, high $371.08. Our $373.97 breakout call expired unfilled. It has still not touched the yearly high, and the failure to get there on a 1.7% index-level rally is the second financial not confirming.
- META $587.75 — down 0.42%, 26.2% below $796.25. Weakest structure on the board.
Eight of ten names closed green. The two reds — AMZN and META — both opened below the prior close and never reclaimed it.
What We're Changing
Dropping the Amazon upside case. The 52-week high got rejected and the close in the lower third confirms it.
The financials thesis flips. Both JPM and V sit inside 1.5% of their yearly highs and neither could take one out on a broad up day. Below $354.62 in JPMorgan, that failure is confirmed within three sessions. Above $363.00 on a close, the read is void and we respect the range break.
What changes our mind on AMD: a close back under $502.41 erases the entire gap. On 4.2M shares, that is a live risk.
Open Checklist
- JPM $363.00 — close above confirms the breakout. Below $354.62 the fade is real.
- AMD $502.41 — gap floor. Above $530.06 the next leg is on.
- AMZN $275.86 — session low. Below it, the rejection extends.
