Reports of investors piling into put options and credit-default swaps arrived with the AI complex already broken. The desk reads this as a compute unwind rather than a market-wide liquidation — and AMD at $505.44 is where that gets tested.
Nine of ten names closed red Friday. One of them printed a 90-day high.
Verdict
The hedging demand is real, but the cash market is discriminating. Semiconductors were sold without a bid into the close — payments, consumer and Apple were barely touched.
| Symbol | Close | Change | Day range | 52-week range |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AAPL | $347.32 | -1.59 (-0.46%) | $344.14–$349.19 | $243.42–$351.73 |
| MSFT | $521.60 | -8.54 (-1.61%) | $514.41–$526.00 | $349.20–$551.15 |
| NVDA | $204.75 | -8.91 (-4.17%) | $204.69–$209.06 | $164.27–$243.37 |
| GOOGL | $280.97 | -2.85 (-1.00%) | $279.00–$283.13 | $270.70–$408.61 |
| AMZN | $239.12 | -4.67 (-1.92%) | $229.37–$241.55 | $196.00–$287.20 |
| META | $620.54 | -3.98 (-0.64%) | $610.13–$626.34 | $520.26–$779.82 |
| TSLA | $400.87 | -2.43 (-0.60%) | $387.60–$404.12 | $297.38–$498.83 |
| JPM | $338.75 | -4.83 (-1.41%) | $337.13–$344.13 | $279.10–$366.50 |
| V | $413.56 | +3.02 (+0.74%) | $411.91–$416.98 | $293.89–$416.98 |
| AMD | $505.44 | -60.98 (-10.77%) | $504.67–$520.21 | $188.22–$658.52 |
If V holds $411.91, this stays a sector unwind. Below it, the selling has gone indiscriminate and the read changes.
The Board
AMD $505.44 (-10.77%) — Gapped down 10.16% and never traded back above the prior close. High of $520.21, closed at 5% of the day's range. That is a failed bounce on 706,472 shares.
NVDA $204.75 (-4.17%) — Closed at its 90-day low, at 1% of the session range. Volume of 2.1 million was the heaviest on the board. Third consecutive red close, and 15.9% below the 52-week high.
GOOGL $280.97 (-1.00%) — Down 13.2% over five sessions and 19.7% over thirty. It closed at the 90-day low, now just 3.8% above the 52-week low at $270.70.
AMZN $239.12 (-1.92%) — Gapped down 4.61% to $232.54, then recovered to close in the upper third of the range. The headline loss understates the session.
Five names gapped lower by more than 1.5%. Three of them closed in the upper 60% of the range — and none of those three were semiconductors.
TSLA $400.87 (-0.60%) — Same shape as Amazon. Gapped down 2.57%, closed at 80% of range and held the $400 handle. Up 6.3% over five sessions.
V $413.56 (+0.74%) — The only green close, and a 90-day high. Third straight green print, up 12.0% over thirty sessions. The 52-week high at $416.98 was the session high.
MSFT $521.60 (-1.61%) — Three red closes in a row, but it finished at 62% of range. Still only 5.4% below the 52-week high — the cleanest structure in megacap tech.
META $620.54 (-0.64%) — Gapped down 1.6% to $614.51 and closed in the upper third. Buyers showed up under $615.
AAPL $347.32 (-0.46%) — Noise. It sits 1.3% below the 52-week high and 0.6% below the 90-day high.
JPM $338.75 (-1.41%) — Closed at 23% of the range. Weakest finish outside the semis.
What We're Changing
We called AMD below $508.40 on a five-session window and it expired unfilled. It got there late — the level was right, the clock was wrong. We are not repeating that mistake with a tight window on a name that just moved double digits.
We also called JPM above $349.00 and it never got there. Financials have gone sideways while the AI complex absorbed the flow.
Status on the pending META below $600.00 call: open through Nov 4, and $610.13 is the session low standing between here and it.
What changes the view: a session where Visa and Apple get hit as hard as the semis. That would mean the put and CDS buying described in the reports is being expressed in cash, not just in derivatives. We are not there yet.
Open Checklist
- AMD $500.00 — a close below extends the unwind. Above $520.21, the gap-fill attempt is live.
- NVDA $204.69 — the session low. A close under $200.00 opens the 52-week zone.
- V $416.98 — a close above the 52-week high keeps the rotation read intact. Below $411.91, it does not.
