September hike odds sit at 58% — CoinDesk's point being that a coin flip got quoted around the desks as a near-lock. Bitcoin's answer to the repricing was to close the August book at $78,315.99, up 0.82%, roughly twenty-four dollars under the $78,340 that Forexlive flagged as the level bulls needed to confirm a reversal. It tagged $78,802 intraday. Gave it back.
Six of eight majors closed green. The two that didn't were the two highest-beta names on the board. That's the session: a hawkish rate path got absorbed at the top of the cap stack and paid for at the bottom. Not a flush — a sort.
What Changed
Start with the contradiction sitting inside the corporate bid. Strategy bought $370 million of bitcoin last week, its first purchase since June. Strive added 1,800 BTC for $143 million, which puts it fifth among publicly traded holders. And in the same week, Metaplanet moved 10,270 BTC — over 29% of its reported stack — into Coinbase Prime, including 4,800 coins worth $377 million. Buyers returning at one end of the treasury trade while one of the most aggressive holders parks nearly a third of its balance sheet on an exchange doorstep. You can construct innocent explanations for that. You can also notice that price didn't blink at either.

Which is the part worth sitting with. Cointelegraph reported US bond yields eyeing a new 20-year high as Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent addressed the market. Twenty-year-high yields are supposed to be the thing that ends the long-duration bid, and crypto is the longest duration asset anyone owns. Bitcoin closed up. Ether closed up 1.21% at $2,446.20 on a day Bitmine added 53,500 ETH, its largest purchase since June, taking it to 4.9% of supply across 65 consecutive weeks of buying — through a drawdown that has left it carrying $5.1 billion in paper losses. A buyer that mechanical doesn't care about the September meeting. It cares about the next Monday.
The bleed was entirely in the tail. DOGE/USD lost 4.05% to $0.0818 and AVAX/USD shed 3.40% to $7.0820, both finishing in the lower third of their sessions after opening at their highs and never recovering. Dogecoin now sits 12.3% below its 90-day high, Avalanche 9.6% below its own — while SOL/USD closed at $103.40, up 1.62%, only 5.4% off its 90-day high and up 44.8% over thirty sessions.
The spread between Solana and Dogecoin on the day was 5.67 percentage points. Same asset class, same headline, opposite outcomes.
On Solana, I owe you a correction. Back on August 18 I said a close below $75.20 would prove that session's lone green print was noise. It was the wrong read and it aged badly — SOL is a hundred-and-three-dollar asset now. The upside leg of that same call, above $76.80, hit within days. Same with XRP: I called it under $0.99 and it closed today at $1.3709. What I underweighted both times was how thin the offer side had become above spot. When books are that light, downside targets need real supply to work, and there wasn't any.
So I'll be narrower here. Bitcoin is 2.5% below its 90-day high of $80,288.00 and down 0.9% over five sessions despite being up 25.1% over thirty. That's a market digesting, and digestion resolves fast or it rolls over. A close above $78,802 — today's high — within five sessions confirms the reversal Forexlive is describing and puts the 90-day high in play. A close below $77,392, today's low, within the same window says the hawkish repricing finally reached the majors and the treasury bid was a one-week event. Dogecoin under $0.0808 would say the tail keeps paying for it.
What flips me: if the September probability moves decisively above 58% and bitcoin still holds $78,000, the rate channel is broken as an explanation for crypto and I'll stop using it.
The Line
$78,802.
