Two fresh 52-week highs printed in the same session — AAPL at $328.72 and JPM at $351.24. The bid is real, and it runs wider than one name. The qualifier: both TSLA and AMD gapped up at the open and reversed hard. Strength lived at the close, not the open.
Verdict
We stay with megacap longs while Thursday's lows hold. The level the desk is watching is MSFT $398.96 — a close through it puts the $400 round number in play.
The Names
AAPL — $327.50 (+4.01%). Gapped up $2.77 and extended all session. The $328.72 print is a new yearly high on 60.8M shares. It closed in the upper third of the range. Above $328.72, there is no overhead supply left. Below $317.32, the breakout stalls.
AMD — $529.14 (−3.46%). Gapped up $7.89 to $556.02, touched $558.81, then bled to $509.57. That is a $49.24 swing top to bottom. The close clawed back $19.57 and settled mid-range. Bulls need $509.57 to hold. A reclaim of $548.13 repairs the damage. Duquesne's Q1 13F showed concentrated semiconductor bets, per Seeking Alpha's tracking — positioning in the group stays crowded.
TSLA — $394.46 (−0.43%). Same pattern as AMD, smaller scale. Gapped to $399.39, ran to $406.59, then faded $12.13 into the close. It finished in the lower third of its range. Below $390.66, sellers press the advantage.
NVDA — $212.50 (+0.33%). Heaviest volume on the board at 119M shares. It flushed to $206.04 and got bought back $6.46 into the bell. A flat close on that turnover is a standoff. The 52-week high at $236.54 offers 11.3% of upside from here. Above $213.81, buyers take control. Below $206.04, the whole board loses its anchor.
MSFT — $395.63 (+2.78%). Gapped up $2.87 and held the entire session. The high at $398.96 sits $1.04 under $400. Closed in the upper third. Below $386.40, momentum cools.
GOOGL — $370.92 (+3.17%). The only green name that opened below its prior close. Sellers had their shot at $357.76 and got run over. $373.65 is the next trigger.
JPM — $346.91 (+1.17%). Tagged $351.24 — a fresh yearly high — then settled mid-range. The tag matters. Follow-through above $351.24 confirms the financials bid.
AMZN — $254.96 (+3.02%) and META — $681.31 (+3.07%) both closed in the upper thirds of their ranges. META's next hurdle is $686.08. AMZN needs $256.48.
Seven of ten names closed green. Two of the three losers gapped up first — then reversed.
Yahoo Finance flagged shrinking Magnificent Seven valuation premiums this week. The rotation back into megacaps may be traders responding to exactly that. If the broadening continues, the expression lives in AAPL holding above $328.72 — with $317.32 as the invalidation.
The Risk Sheet
- Semis crack wider → AMD below $509.57 → megacap exposure gets trimmed across the board.
- MSFT rejects $400 → a close back under $386.40 → the momentum case weakens.
- AAPL breakout fails → close below $317.32 → the fresh high becomes a trap, fade it.
- NVDA loses its floor → break of $206.04 on volume → the highest-turnover name rolls, respect the range.
Tomorrow's Checklist
- AAPL above $328.72
- MSFT tests $398.96
- AMD holds $509.57
