The AI-bubble scare that took Seoul's Kospi down nearly 11% and tripped a circuit breaker did not generalize here. It found one name — AMD — and stopped.

Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix took double-digit hits on heavy chip selling. The S&P 500 still added 15.98 points to close at 7,429.16. Six of our ten names finished green.

Verdict

This was a single-name repricing wearing a macro costume. Containment holds while NVDA defends $192.74 — below it, the Seoul selling has crossed the water.

The Names

AMD $454.73 — down $40.22, or 8.13%. Gapped down 5.85% at the open and never repaired it. Volume was 7.1M. Now 22.2% below the $584.73 52-week high. A close below Tuesday's $442.35 low says the selling has legs.

NVDA $196.94 — up 0.22% on 24M shares, the heaviest on the board. Gapped down 0.79%, then closed in the upper third of its range. Buyers showed up under $195. That is the print that matters more than AMD's.

AMD and NVDA — same sector, same catalyst, 8.35 percentage points apart on the day. Three names closed within 1.3% of their 52-week highs.

GOOGL $333.64 — up 2.17%, best performer, closed in the upper fifth of the range. Gapped up and added to it. Bought while chips bled.

V $366.27 — up 1.03% and 1.3% below the $371.14 52-week high. Payments took the bid again. A close above $371.14 is the breakout level the desk is watching.

JPM $357.35 — up 0.32%, half a percent under its 52-week high, on 983,750 shares. Thin tape, no distribution.

AAPL $340.01 — up 0.92% into this week's print, 0.8% below the $342.87 52-week high. Gapped up 0.95% and held most of it.

MSFT $393.40 — up 1.11% but tagged $400.29 and closed in the lower third of the range. That is a fade off the high, and $400 is the widely watched round number it failed at.

META $593.32 — flat, down 0.09%. Our Monday call for a reclaim of $609.98 by Aug 1 is running out of room. Volume was 1.6M, the lightest of the ten.

The Risk Sheet

  • Contagion spreads past AMD → NVDA closes below $192.74 → the containment read is wrong and the whole complex is repricing.
  • Fed surprise Wednesday → futures priced a 32% hike probability, down from 38% Monday → a hike hits the quality bid in V and JPM first.
  • Mega-cap earnings miss → AAPL closes below $335.61 → the 52-week-high breakout is dead and the defensive rotation loses its anchor.
  • AMD dead-cat bounce fails → no reclaim of $472.83 → the gap stays open and $442.35 gets tested.

Tomorrow's Checklist

  • NVDA $192.74 support
  • AMD $442.35 invalidation
  • V $371.14 breakout
