Thursday's liquidation tape marked every large-cap name down together. Friday delivered 23.46 percentage points of separation between Microsoft and Meta. That is the change.

The Call

Dispersion is back — we trade the gaps as levels, not as noise, and $438.50 in Microsoft is the one that matters.

Risk Sheet

  • MSFT $451.10 — the opening print of $438.50 is the line. A close below it starts the gap fill. Volume was 109.3M. The move is now 18.8% below the $555.45 52-week high, so there is room above.
  • AMD $485.39 — up 13.00% and closed in the upper third of its range. The session high of $498.20 sits $12.81 under $500. A close above $498.20 puts the round number in play. Reported commentary from AMD's chief executive doubling down on AI demand coincided with the bid.
  • META $539.03 — down $46.58 and just 3.6% above the $520.26 52-week low. That low is the whole position. Below it, this is no longer a gap — it is a downtrend.
  • NVDA $195.04 — heaviest volume on the board at 123.1M shares, up 2.65%. Our $185 downside call from Thursday is offside. Above $196.02 it is dead.
  • TSLA $308.85 — up 3.53% off a 52-week low print set the prior session. Closed in the upper third. The $295 downside case has lost its edge.
  • JPM $350.85 — up 1.78% on 5.9M shares, 2.4% below the $359.30 52-week high.
  • V $366.27 — down 0.67% but closed in the upper third of its range. Still 2.1% under $373.97.
  • AAPL $333.43 — gapped down 1.5% and never repaired it. Now 3.2% below the $344.57 high.
Six of ten names closed green. Four of those six finished in the upper third of their range.

The Outlier

Meta is the obvious answer. It is not the interesting one.

Meta gapped down $59.87 and then closed at 94% of its daily range. It recovered $14.51 off the $524.52 low and never revisited it. Sellers had all session to press it into the 52-week low. They did not.

The real outlier is Alphabet. It fell 0.91% while the two biggest AI-adjacent names moved double digits in opposite directions. Volume was 29.9M. GOOGL sits 18.3% below its $408.61 high — the same distance Microsoft sits below its own. One of those two prices is wrong.

A Jefferies note flagging China as a long-term AI winner circulated into the session. It did not stop AMD from adding 13.00%. Treat sector-level calls accordingly.

What Kills This

A Microsoft close under $438.50 inside three sessions. That would say the gap was liquidity, not conviction, and the dispersion trade dies with it.

Tomorrow

  • MSFT $438.50
